_______

Giulia Cacciuttolo’s practice is focused on the investigation of memory, in particular on contemporary archives and the way in which people relate to them to pass on their stories to the next generations.

Through the use of various printing techniques on different media such as latex, silk and wax, Giulia investigates the potential physical relationship between memory, space and landscape understood as the layering of lives, memories and stories.

Quoting a fine critical text by Federica Fiumelli written specifically for her solo exhibition at the Galleria Ramo, we can realize how “the artist’s choice in using natural silk organza makes precious the landscape of the photographic image, a starting point, a pure essence, distilled – in a physical, real space. The black and white image now assumes shapes and movements in front of us, the sinuous, sculptural lines and folds, like ripples in space, suspend themselves and suspend the vision, the judgment. “

[…]

“Cacciuttolo’s research thus appears suspended between elasticity and abstraction, an image that knows how to be photographic, pictorial and sculptural at the same time. If initially the artist uses the photographic medium then we see the image undergoes an alchemical metamorphosis, from pure sculpture / installation surface in copper and silk organza, a type of fabric that shares a deep bond with the Como area. The folds and transparency of the fabric only accentuate the desire to disperse the initial image, to lose it, to put it down , make it distant as it happens to memories, in our memory. “
